  • Challenges and Opportunities for Community Tourism

What is Community-based tourism?

Community-based tourism (CBT) refers to tourism experiences that are owned, hosted and managed by local communities. Well-managed CBT creates jobs, generates income and safeguards the local environment. CBT is all about sustainable community empowerment. Local people are directly and collectively involved in preparing and providing the tourism experience. They benefit through skills development and improved economic self-sufficiency, and the community can proudly preserve their culture, heritage and local environment.
