Digital Stories from the Peatlands

December 9, 2023 @ 12:00 - 13:30

Free
Connecting Communities with Peatlands invites you to ‘Digital Stories from the Peatlands’.
If you are free at 12pm on the 9th of December why not drop into the Esker Arts Centre in Tullamore for a special hour-long event showcasing the work made by a group of participants from the midlands during the Autumn of 2023 during a digital upskilling programme with artist/folklorist Michael Fortune. Between September and November 2023, the group met weekly and immersed themselves in digital tools and learning new skills. However, these new skills were put to the test and over the three months, they recorded interviews, produced digital maps, and captured local voices and histories from the peatlands.
The event is completely free and in it, you can watch some of the content produced and hear all about it from the group themselves. The event is a great eye-opener for local groups or budding local makers or writers as it will unwrap the process and give you a behind-the-scenes view of how the work was made. The participants include Eugene Dunbar, KK Kenny, Cathy Whelehan, Monica Dolan, Catherine Molloy, Ciara Egan, Emer Murphy, Fionnuala Mckenna, Frances Holohan, Shane Hynan and John Walsh. The event will be hosted by Michael Fortune who will be there to hold the event together and draw questions from the makers and the audience.
Great to see you there. Everyone is welcome!
This programme is supported by the Connecting Communities with Peatlands project, funded by the National Just Transition and Carbon Tax Fund. The project aims to empower community groups in the Midlands to engage with the nature and heritage of their local bogs.
