To celebrate Biodiversity Week, Cuimhneamh an Chláir will take a trip to Shannon Town Community Wetlands, a recently-restored urban wetland which has become a success story in both conservation and community engagement. Their committee will guide walkers through the flora and fauna of the site, with hands-on exposure to a rich array of pond-life, flowers and grasses.
To connect with Cuimhneamh an Chláir’s mission, this walk will focus on the traditions and historical uses surrounding plants, including medicinal uses, practical applications, and their appearance in folklore, drawing from Cuimhneamh’s archive. In this walk, we will try our hand at the “outdoor classroom” created by the wetlands committee, including a look at pond macroinvertebrates and plant identification. This walk will welcome input, expertise and traditional knowledge from attendees.
