Background
The Community Wetlands Forum (CWF) was established to promote, develop, and support community-led wetland conservation for the public benefit; and to provide a representative platform for community-led wetland conservation groups.
The CWF’s vision is of a society where wetlands are valued by local communities, and community stewardship is valued as a means of protecting and managing wetlands now and into the future.
The CWF has considerable expertise in community-led wetlands stewardship, and in pursuit of its mission, seeks to:
- Promote Wetlands and Peatland areas as important places of biodiversity, sites for climate action and conservation, as well as community integration,
well-being and ownership. - Facilitate the sharing of organisational methods, knowledge, ideas, and best practice.
- Share the latest research, approaches in conservation best practises, and funding possibilities.
The CWF now wishes to recruit a Development Officer and a Communications & Administration Officer, and invites suitably experienced and qualified candidates to apply. These roles offer a unique opportunity to shape the Community Wetlands Forum and its work with the membership and stakeholders. The Development Officer, supported by the Communications & Administration Officer, will work with the Board of the CWF to support and engage with current members, to assist the organisation to grow its membership, and to build public awareness of the CWF through communications and outreach activities. Identifying opportunities to grow the organisation, including operating income, is an important aspect of these roles.
Operating under the guidance of the Board of Directors, they will concentrate on designated areas of work aimed at implementing the key objectives outlined in the Community Wetlands Forum CLG Strategic Plan.
Title – Development Officer
Position – Part-time (2.5 days/week) Initially, 12-month contract subject to 6-month probationary period. Flexible working hours.
Location – Remote, with in-person attendance required at meetings and events across Ireland
Renumeration – Pro rata salary based on a fulltime scale of €45,000 – €55,000 per annum. depending on experience. Plus a 5% pension contribution.
Reporting To Board
Focus: External leadership, partnerships, and strategic growth, network development, community engagement.
This role also includes a management function with responsibility for supervising admin, financial staff and sub-contractors
Purpose To position and grow CWF as the leading national network in relation to Community led Wetland Conservation, building relationships/partnerships and brokering collaborations, securing funding, and increasing membership and deepening engagement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder & Partnership Development (all island)
- Identify, classify and develop strategic collaborations – As part of the CWF’s Leadership Team, initiate & lead relationships with:
- Government/statutory bodies
- NGOs and environmental networks, including with key European partners & NGO’s
- Academic & research institutions
- Corporate partners
- Represent CWF at key national forums and policy discussions
- Identify and target funding, grant and collaborative opportunities in Ireland and in Europe if appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to generate funds for the CWF network and program development.
- Network & Membership Growth (all-island)
- Develop and lead membership growth strategy
- Design member value proposition and benefits
- Create opportunities for:
- shared learning
- networking
- peer exchange
- bespoke capacity-building/training
- Succession Planning i.e. Support development of a member leadership pipeline (future Directors as part of volunteer programme)
- Members, Volunteer & Community Development
- Support the development and implementation of the CWFs volunteer programme
- Identify opportunities and supports required for members to represent the organisation
- Create pathways for member participation and opportunities for members to take leadership roles within the CWF
- Oversee other CWF staff, and support the Board to achieve the CWF strategic plan.
- Programme & Capacity Strategy
- Design training and capacity-building programmes as identified by members and agreed by the Board
- Identify priority themes (citizen science, restoration, governance etc.)
- Oversee programme quality and impact
- Support and facilitate CWF sub-committees
- Organisational Administration
- Prepare annual work plans for approval by the Board
- Provide monthly operational reports to the Board
- Manage day-to-day correspondence
- Maintain existing document systems and compliance records
- Governance Support
- Support the Board in:
- governance compliance awareness
- preparation of reports and updates
- Contribute to HR and organisational planning discussions
Undertake any duties of a similar nature as required by CWF.

Focus: Internal delivery, administration, and implementation
Purpose to deliver and administer CWF’s projects, communications, and operations, ensuring efficient execution of plans agreed with the Board
Reporting to the Development Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Communications
- Implement the CWF communications plan
- Manage all digital channels (website, social, email, WhatsApp)
- Create and schedule content aligned with agreed messaging
- Coordinate newsletters, announcements, and campaigns
- Support promotion of events, meetings and training
- Assisting in relationship building with Key stakeholders
- Project Management & Programme Delivery
- Organise logistics for training, events, and capacity-building initiatives, identified by members and agreed by the Board.
- Administer and track all projects – monitoring spend and timelines as per funders requirements
- Support CWF working groups such as the TAC
- Support development and implementation of volunteer programme
- Members, Volunteer & Community Development
- Identify opportunities for members to represent the organisation
- Create pathways for member participation and opportunities for members to take leadership roles within the CWF
- Work with other CWF staff, and the Board to implement
- Membership & CRM Administration
- Maintain and manage CRM/database – ensuring compliance with CWF Data Protection Policies.
- Track membership activity, growth, and engagement metrics as per funders requirements.
- Administer membership communications
- Support delivery of membership engagement initiatives
- Funding & Reporting Support
- Track funding deadlines and reporting requirements
- Work with the CWFs finance personnel to ensure funder reports are completed on time.
- Organisational Administration
- Prepare annual work plans for approval by the Board
- Provide monthly operational reports to the Board
- Manage day-to-day correspondence.
- Maintain existing document systems and compliance records
